random noms #2 mock beef bourguignon

Rainy day. Also, a sick day... And an empty fridge. Naturally, we are forced to cook with leftovers and pantry items.

We made the Japo-French abomination with leftover marinated meat from the Japanese market (black pepper sauce!), half a fennel bulb, some baby carrots, wilted scallions, a lonely shallot, and some shriveled up potatoes, all drowned in leftover two buck chuck merlot. Simmered while the rice cooker's doing it's magic. It was spicy and a bit too sweet (well duh, the marinade!), so we splashed some Maggi sauce into it. Good eats.

Dinner was supplemented with some 2006 pinot noir from Louis Jadot, a gift from my friend's dad @Restaurant 2117. We helped them move on Sunday so he gave us a bottle. Very light and fruity.
